What is the goal of the evolution? The evolution can’t have a goal because it is not a conscious process. But the products of the process became conscious along the way. Creatures formed that could design itself by selecting a good partner to multiply itself. Selecting the right DNA building plans for their offspring.

Forming a world view

When the first consciously thinking creatures formed as humans they tried to find explanations of how and why the world functioned as it is. The humans formed a kind of perfect being with a goal that guided them on their path. There was a grander scheme and they were part of it. It was the will of God the almighty.

According to their believes this God had brought them into existence and had certain rules so that societies could form. As their knowledge grew their explanations of the world became less mystique thus more rationally explained. The humans found out about the evolution process and saw their place in it. They became aware they were part of an evolving ecosystem. Some people came to doubt the existing of god/gods.

The importance of religion in evolution

The coming of religions in the evolution process smoothed the process of creatures becoming aware of their environment. It was a comfort to know there is something bigger than you that watched over all. That there was meaning behind all this.

But religions also brought something else to the mind of the humans: The perfect being. Look at the God figure but also the messiahs or other religious figures. Godlike perfection is something to be strived for in everything we build and design. Design is something holistic and the best holistic designs are considered as almost holy. (the apple with a bite from it is considered as something out of paradise by apple fans) Something you want to associate yourself with.

Becoming gods

People are searching for perfection. To combine ideas to find broader more encompassing ideas. People themselves want to be perfect or break down when they find out they are not special.

Evolution has set the goal: To create a being that can see all, that knows all, that is perfect. People miss the representation of God on earth and evolution is set out to create it.

The apocalypse

But the apocalypse is near. We need to find better ways to come out of this pending crisis. We need to unite to get out of this climate mess… We need to work together to heal the biosphere. We need to find a balance with the technosphere. We need to continue to find this road to perfection.
