Seeking beauty

The first design.
What was the first thing we designed as the human race? Well we together designed ourselves. We as people select with who we mate so the best combination of genes will live on. Random mutations create unattractive new forms that do not lead anywhere but also new attractive variants we love to combine with ourselves. We seek opposites so combined it can form an improved you.
What is the basis we design on?
Well this design method that is built into every living being is built on instinct, on feeling. You select people to create a new person by love. You feel he/she is the right person or not. It even seems that unconsciously the odour of ourselves depends on our kind of immune system. And that you select unconsciously different immune systems so your children have a more diverse system of defending themselves against virusses etc. And we don’t think about it, we just feel it is right.
So we don’t design consciously. We design by feeling and understand it when it has been designed. We as humans are unique because we not only design ourselves but also the environment around us. (next step of the evolution process) When we see the product we can understand it. But good designers/artists only feel the next step. They define this next step by beauty and love. Good designer design out of love. Love for the subject, love for uniformity, love for uniqueness, love for doing it, love for contributing. Love brings us to a higher plain. They sometimes feel they have to take an ugly or strange road to find a new path to a better design. Sometimes the path where the majority is on is a dead end.
The end of design
But what is the end of design? Design works holistically. (The whole is bigger than its parts) We keep combining things so they form something new and unique together. A building is designed by many designed parts. A good designed building is where all parts combined make the building more than just a building. Where it transcends itself. In this way the area outside the buildings are designed and complete cities are designed. We suddenly see a chaos that has to be structured before it is out of control.
We get more and more holistic design methods that look at a bigger whole. The end is an abstract notion of design. Everything will be designed to coorperate, to add to other parts, to ascend all parts, to ascend our experience.
The beginning
Everything designed to contribute will lead to something bigger than all its parts. It will add to a feeling that is ascending above all else. It will be holy because of its holistic nature. But this can only be if we design out of love and goodness. (otherwise it will cause destruction) This can only be if we include everybody to contribute. Everybody has to become the designer of the future!

In my (humble) opinion, design is always by definition a conscious process.
In the case of human beings selecting mates, I think design is the last thing on their minds. At least I hope it is…
Sorry that I’m trying to burst your bubble, but you can’t stick a design label on everything…
